Financial Literacy
Why a Certification for Financial Literacy?
Financial experts predict that two out of three U.S. households will not accomplish major life goals because they did not plan for the future. According to a USA Today poll, Americans' number one fear is running out of money during retirement. Together, U.S. corporations, their workers, and financial literacy educators can reverse these disturbing trends. The tools are available to change attitudes toward spending and saving – they simply need to be made available to all Americans.
Former Secretary of the Treasury Paul O'Neill summed it up succinctly: "Financial education can be compared to a road map to the American Dream. I believe that we need to teach all Americans the necessary tools to read that map, so they can reach the Dream."
Despite all the recent attention to the cause of Financial Literacy, there is no standard which has reached acceptability internationally. This is a void Advance Learning proposes to fill. Modelling the certification on the hugely successful ICDL certification (6 million certifications in 146 countries), the International Certificate in Financial Literacy can achieve a recognition far beyond what a regionally focused certification could ever accomplish.
